Higurashi When They Cry

Perhaps one of the scariest, creepiest, and mind-blowing shows I've ever watched was Higurashi When They Cry. Here's a trailer.

P.S. Watch the Japanese version with subtitles, because the Japanese voice actors are superb.

What are some movies, TV shows, or books that you've watched or read that you thought were mind-blowing?

I'm not entirely sure I followed it completely, but it WAS creepy! Books-Thinner by Stephen King, Unwind by Neal Shusterman. TV show? X-Files? Movies-Scream and the original Nightmare on Elm Street. I don't typically do horror. Mystery and suspense, sure. Oh! Alien and Aliens.

I've heard of Higurashi and I bet I'd like it if I saw it. :)

The Shining and Vertigo were mind-blowing in that I had no idea what to expect, particularly Vertigo in that it was a departure from most Hollywood fare at the time. As for TV, Showtime's Dexter and the anime series Black Lagoon and Gantz are mind-blowing. And one book series that has blown my mind is Boogiepop, based off the anime. It's just so weird...

Hey, The Words Crafter! As for Stephen King, he's one of my idols, and I love his books! Thinner is definitely on my TBR list. I have to check out Neal Shusterman though.

As for TV shows, I love the X-Files! I hope one day to watch the entire series... I just got to find some time in schedule, which has been pretty full lately.

I also loved Scream when I was just 8 years old. I have yet to watch the entire Nightmare on Elm Street original movie, I've only seen parts of it, but that is on my list of things to watch, too!

So many things I want to do, but so little time! Write on and keep mind-blowing!

Wow, that was quite a trailer! I'm a little freaked out now. =)

That certainly was quite a trailer. Another quite creepy, yet intelligent, horror movie is PONTYPOOL. Here's the link to the trailer :

Thanks for all the great comments you leave on my blog. They are certainly appreciated, Roland

Yes, a bit freaky!

I loved 'The book Thief', which sounds kind of boring after your movie trailer.

I feel so mainstream after looking at that! Um, I like 30 rock?

Hey, Carolyn!

I'm glad you enjoyed watching the trailer! If you were freaked out just by that seven minute montage, you should see the show 'cause that's even creepier!

Write on and get your freak on!

Hello, Roland!

I've actually watched Pontypool a few months ago. It was really funny at times and also scary too. Plus, it had an Armenian in it and I laughed so hard when the doctor started talking in Armenian. (Because I'm an Armenian myself! You rarely see Armenians in American movies.)

And no problemo on the comments. Seriously, your posts are always awesome and fun to read!

Write on!

Hey, Tabitha!

Thanks for following my blog and I'm definitely going to check out yours, too! (I already became a follower just a few seconds ago.)

Yes, that trailer is a bit freaky, but nothing in comparison to the actual show. I was on the edge of my seat while watching it, so I recommend it as a good dose of adrenaline to you.

I have "The Book Thief" on my shelf, but I have yet to read it, but I will eventually!

Write on, read on, and get your freak on!

Hello, Rebecca!

That show actually appeared in the year 2007 and it was actually an underrated show, so it's not THAT mainstream. :D

As for 30 Rock, I want to watch it, but I can hardly find the time in my schedule. It looks like a hilarious show and it IS on my list of Things-to-Watch along with the TV shows, V and Supernatural.

Write on!

Where's my comment?!?! D:

Anyway, I bet I'd like Higurashi if I checked it out, and I may one day. If you want something mind-blowing, watch Black Lagoon (the anime series) and Shutter Island (the movie). And of course, who can forget The Shining? I had no idea what to expect with that movie!

Hey, Amanda! Your comment actually popped out of nowhere after Blogspot fixed the whole disappearing comment fiasco, but thanks for commenting again.

I love The Shining. I've read the book, seen the mini-series, and the movie with Jack Nicholson in it! (HERE'S JOHNNY!)

As for Vertigo, got to love Alfred Hitchcock. I want to see all of his films one day. I'm thinking of a movie marathon at my house!

I've also seen Boogiepop Phantom the animated series, but I haven't got a chance to view the manga or novels that tie-in with the series. :(

I also LOVE Black Lagoon. I actually met the author/creator, Rei Hiroe, last week! I read the entire manga series so far and can't wait for the next volume to come out. Until then, I'm watching the animated series right now!

As for Shutter Island, I heard the book was better, so I'm going to read that first and then watch the movie. My friend has actually been bugging me to read the book lately.

Lastly, Gantz, which is also on my TBR list. After I'm done reading the manga, I'm going to watch the short anime series, too. :D (I heard it's nearing toward the end. Yay!)

I highly recommend Higurashi to you, Amanda! Anyway, write on, watch on, fight on, and rock on!

Oh, there I am. xD

You met Rei Hiroe?! How awesome! So far I've only really watched the TV show, but I have skimmed through Volume 1 of the manga and it's very similar so I may just stick to the anime series.

I did a mini-marathon of Hitchcock last weekend. Vertigo and Rear Window all in one sitting. :]

Hey, Amanda!

It was really awesome meeting him and getting an autographed poster. The manga series though is still continuing, while the anime series seems to have finished with its third season, so I suggest you pick it up sometime.

I hope to have a Hitchcock marathon soon. Vertigo and Rear Window are definitely on my list!

Write on, read on, and watch on!
