"Fairy tales are more than true; not because they tell us that dragons exist, but because they tell us that dragons can be beaten." ~ G. K. Chesterton

What was your favorite fairy tale/story as a child? Are there any stories or authors that inspire you to write today?

I was never into fairy tales as a kid, at least any that I can recall. It was really just Harry Potter for me!

My favorites are the brother's grimm- rumplestiltskin or the dancing princesses that use up their shoes at night.

Okay.... I love this picture and I love the quote. Gorgeous! Lets see....my favorite fairy tale?

The Story Of A Youth Who Went Forth To Learn What Fear Was by the Grimm Brothers. I don't know why it was my favorite as a kid, it just was. But I love all the Grimm tales as well as Hans Christen Andersen... yeah. They were my bread and butter...until six months after the first HP came out because then I got addicted to that and JK Rowling is my inspiration, the world she created is why I want to write my own stories (I know its JK Rowling so that may not be very original but its the whole truth!)

I would have to say Edith Hamilton's Mythology. Because monsters are real and there were people in the stories who stood up to them and fought them. I especially loved Pegasus, who could carry someone away from darkness.

I fell in love with Dean Koontz's writing because he had good guys who either won or still had hope at the end.

Hickman and Weiss because of their epic creations filled with flawed heroes and bad guys who had moments of purity.

Tolkien because he created my first real otherworld...these were my elementary through high school inspirations and the roots from which my internal stories were born...

How about you?

Oh I love that! My favorite fairytale was Cinderella, because she was one of the only princesses that was a hard worker. She was so awesome. =)

I was a Sleeping Beauty nut--loved the idea that a girl could grow up, only to find out LATER that she was a princess... totally sucked me in as a kid. I keep waiting for the letter that says it's true (keep in mind I'm now in my 40s)

JKRowling though, inspired me as a WRITER.

I loved Snow White. I nicknamed my little brother "Doc" because we played it so often.

Many writers inspire me today, CS Lewis, JK Rowling to name two. If I listed them all, I would be here all day! ;)

I'm so glad that Words Crafter mentioned that Mythology book--I had that too, and I read it like crazy! I loved the tale of Baucis and Philemon. That was my favorite.

I am STILL a fairy tale junkie. The little girl in me just won't grow up. I loved Cinderella.

You have some of the most gorgeous photos on your blog...where do you get them?

Hey, Amanda! :D

I loved fairy tales and fables when I was a kid; it seems like I wasn't the only one by looking at all these comments!

As for Harry Potter, J.K. Rowling has always been a personal favorite author of mine. I hope to meet her someday!

Write on and read on!

Bonjour, Creepy Query Girl!

Ooh, the Brothers Grimm always had twists and dark tones in their stories, which I absolutely loved. They were one of the authors that inspired me to create some dark stories of my own.

Write on and scare on!

Melissa, what's up? :)

I'm glad you enjoy the picture and the quote. I actually found the quote on Tabitha Bird's blog, she's a follower of mine (I'm also one of her followers/minions.) As for the picture, deviantart.com is a personal favorite of mine for photos. It took a long time to find the perfect one though that matches the quote.

A lot of people seem to enjoy the twisted minds of the Brothers Grimm, including myself! I love all of their tales. As for Harry Potter, don't worry! I'm sure a lot of people got caught up in the fad that still continues today (even me)!

J.K. Rowling is also one of the writers that have inspired me to write; I hope to meet her someday.

Write on, scare on, and inspire us all!

Hey, The Words Crafter!

I have yet to read MYTHOLOGY, but it's definitely on my TBR list, so I'll get to it eventually.

I love Dean Koontz's novels. I have already read THE HUSBAND and VELOCITY. Both of them were awesome! I love his plots with strong characters a reader could believe in.

I haven't heard of Hickman or Weiss, but I'm going to check them out. I'm pretty sure they'll fit me and be put on my TBR list, because you and I have similar tastes.

Lastly, Tolkien is awesome. I have to read LORD OF THE RINGS again, because I read it before when I was much, much younger and didn't understand it. I only read it back then because I thought the movies were cool. Now though, I'm planning on reading them and getting a perfect glimpse at Tolkien's amazing hobbit-filled world.

Write on and read on!

Hello, Carolyn! I'm glad to see you dropped on by! :D

Cinderella really was a hard worker and she got paid off in the end by marrying a prince and becoming a princess! I agree, she was most definitely one of the most awesome and most memorable characters of the fairy tale world.

Write on and read on!

That's a funny story, Hart Johnson!

I loved to read all types of fairy tales and BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was no exception. It's cool to have that imagination as a child and allowing it to continue to your adulthood. I'm happy you're still waiting and I'm sure it'll come someday.

Write on and keep on imagining!

Hey, Terresa!

I enjoyed reading Snow White, as well, and what a funny name for your brother!

C.S. Lewis and J.K. Rowling are two of the writers that inspire me today. I'm right there with you! If I had to list ALL the authors that inspired me, I would be here all day and night. :D

Write on, read on, and continue to be inspired!

Hello, Lydia King!

That mythology book does sound like an awesome read and I already put it on my TBR list. Your comments only make me want to finish the book I'm reading right now and start reading that!

Write on and read on!

Hey, Vicki Rocho, you're not alone! I am also a BIG fairy tale junkie myself.

As for my photos, most of them come from www.deviantart.com. It takes a while for me to find the perfect photo, but I always find the perfect one! :D

Write on and continue to be a fairy tale junkie, because fairy tales rock!
