A Mental Snack (46)

"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." ~ George Bernard Shaw

What do you think about growing old and maturing? Is it always fun being adult about situations? Do you ever have times when you find yourself acting like a kid again? What's one moment in your life you found yourself being a kid again?

When you’re young you think of growing up as this destination you travel to. One day, all of the sudden, there you’ll be, grown up.
It’s not like that at all. You spend your whole life ‘growing up’. Sometimes that means taking steps forward and sometimes it means taking steps back. It almost always means taking on new responsibilities, at least if you’re doing it right, and it always involves change.
Ten years ago my 40+ uncle looked at me and said, “You know, sometimes when I look in the mirror I wonder what the heck happened, because I still feel like the exact same me I did at 17.” I don’t doubt he would say the same thing today. Given the extra ten years to reflect on his statement, I can vouch for its truth. I feel like the same me I was at 15. In some ways I even wonder why I don’t have it as ‘together’ in certain areas now as I did then. Then there are other ways in which I know that I’ve grown and matured and changed through those years. I’ve gotten serious and I’ve loosened up. I fluctuate.
The point is, no matter how we look or are perceived, we, inside remain the same person we always were. We start out growing. We change and grow throughout our lives. When it’s time to leave we’ll have learned a lot, we won’t know everything and we’ll still be growing and changing.
When am I a kid again?
Every time that little voice in my head tells me that I’ll never know unless I try. And then I listen to it.

Thanks for the post!

I'm a kid every day at one point or another whether it's in my classroom with my students or playing with my dog...I am reminded daily how important it is to keep the imagination active and dreams alive!

there is a definite beauty to growing old gracefully. that doesn't mean, however, that you stop playing...

I actually feel like a kid (inside) most of the time, until my creaky knees or stiff back remind me that I'm not.

I'm not sure whether this is a good or bad thing...

I'm fighting the maturity issue with everything I have. As a matter of fact, last night in a dream I thought I was still 38 and upon awaking decided that yes, I would take ten years off my age and maybe that would make me feel better.

I don't have any moments where I would want to go back, but if I had my druthers, I'd like to be able to go outside and play in the snow all day like when I was a kid. I miss it.

Age is just a number..a number here on earth..If you look at earth from Mars than time is something completely different..
We still dont know fully the powers that our mind has over matter..But experiments show that its really big..So we are as old as we believe..as healthy as we believe and as divine as we believe..
Let us all be gentle and kind with ourselves, let us stop caring what the other thinks about us and let us all enjoy all those gifts that we have..
We are kids..and wise creatures and fools..
We like to be happy but must fight more for happiness as a state inside..Make a more secure architecture that does not shake so easily..
Also we must always wonder and dont try to know it all.. leave space for new learning..
Love your blog my friend..
Thank you for your comment on my post.

I get urges to do cartwheels and climb things when we go to the park. I can't help it:) I think you're as old as you feel.

I think everybody grows old but not everyone grows up. Not everyone get to be mature.. they can be at different aspect.. but sometimes there's a ratio..

Well.. until now.. I'm still a bit childish.. I watch a lot of cartoons... and easy light fun stuffs on the TV... I think I'm a little childish though..hahah x)

It's all an adventure, is what I think. ;)

Age is relative, I think. Many older people, in their fifties, sixties and beyond, have told me they still feel 20 inside, despite their real age. Keep that in mind as you age, dear Vatche, it only gets better!

Ummmm, I am kid all of the time. I think that it is important to be mature, but you should always stay young at heart... otherwise I think that you just grow up to be old and bitter and who wants to be like that. Yucky! :oP
